Targeted Support
How Saxo can help point you in the right direction — without giving personalised financial advice.
Key points
- Targeted Support is a regulated service that sits between generic guidance and personalised financial advice.
- It provides a Ready-Made Suggestion for groups of clients who share a financial support need or objective with common characteristics.
- It’s not personalised financial advice and does not take your full financial circumstances into account.
- It's free, and you decide whether to follow the recommendations — nothing happens automatically.
- We'll contact you with a Targeted Support suggestion if you're in one of the groups of clients where we have identified a Ready-Made Suggestion that we believe will put you in a better position. You can opt out at any time.
Where Targeted Support fits in
There are different levels of support available when you make decisions about your money:
- Generic Guidance — General information that is available through resources such as articles that can help you understand what you could do, without recommending a particular course of action.
- Targeted Support — A Ready-Made Suggestion designed for a group of clients with a shared financial support need or objective. This is a suggestion for a group of clients with common characteristics but is not based on a comprehensive assessment of your individual circumstances. The common characteristics and any assumptions made are included with the Ready-Made Suggestion.
- Financial advice — A personalised recommendation based on a more comprehensive assessment of your individual circumstances, needs and objectives. Advice may involve a fee and is not currently offered at Saxo.
Targeted Support was introduced by the FCA to close the gap between the guidance and financial advice — so that more people can get useful, relevant help without needing to pay for full personalised advice.
How it works at Saxo
Saxo may identify situations where a group of clients share a similar financial support need or objective. We define that group using common characteristics and design a Ready-Made Suggestion intended to put clients in that group in a better position than if they had not received the support.
If the information available to us indicates that you align with that group, we’ll provide you with the relevant Targeted Support suggestion.
For example, this could relate to an investment portfolio being highly concentrated. The specific Ready-Made Suggestions will depend on which, if any, client groups you are aligned with.
It is important to remember that when providing Targeted Support, we do not carry out the same comprehensive assessment of your circumstances that would form part of personalised financial advice. This means that we do not take into account all of your circumstances.
What you'll get
A ready-made suggestion — a clear, specific starting point (for example, an action you could take), along with an explanation of why we've suggested it and the characteristics and assumptions that have included you in the group receiving the suggestion.
Your options
Getting a Targeted Support suggestion doesn't commit you to anything. You can:
-
Follow the suggestion — Review what we've shared and, if it looks right for you, follow the steps provided.
- Get regulated financial advice — If you'd like a personalised recommendation based on your full circumstances, you may want to speak to a regulated financial adviser. TO CONFIRM: Saxo does not provide regulated financial advice and for more MoneyHelper offers free impartial guidance.
- Do nothing — There's no obligation to act on a suggestion. Your account and investments stay exactly as they are unless you choose to follow the suggestion.
Is Targeted Support right for me?
Targeted Support can be useful if you:
- Aren't sure what to do next with an aspect of your account or investments
- Want a starting point without paying for financial advice
- Are comfortable making the decision yourself, using our suggestion as a guide
It may not be enough if you have complex financial circumstances, multiple goals to balance, or want a recommendation that fully accounts for your personal situation — in those cases, regulated financial advice is likely to be more suitable.
Good to know
- Targeted Support is free — there's no charge for receiving or acting on a suggestion. The costs involved in making any trades or holding positions is the same as if you had not received the advice.
- We'll only ever send you a suggestion if you are identified as being in the group of clients who the Ready-Made Suggestion is designed for.
- You're always in control — a suggestion is a starting point, not an instruction.
