When opening an account or completing a periodic personal information update at Saxo, you may be required to provide a valid proof of residence (POR) document. This article explains which documents we accept and the requirements they must meet.
What is a proof of residence (POR)?
A proof of residence (POR) is a document that verifies your residential address and confirms your country of residence.
In general, POR documents must be issued within the 6 months prior to submission. This applies to tax statements as well.
Who must provide a POR?
For retail clients, the following must provide a POR document:
- The individual account holder
For joint account holders, the following must provide a POR document:
- Each joint account applicant must verify their proof of residence individually
For corporate accounts, the following stakeholders must provide a POR:
- The ultimate beneficial owners (UBOs)
- The Directors
Acceptable POR documents
As a general rule, Saxo accepts the following types of documents as POR, given that they meet the requirements outlined in the second column. Please note that acceptance criteria may vary by country. You will normally be informed by Saxo if specific requirements apply to your case.

| Bank Statement |
| The issuing bank must be fully regulated. Statements from e-wallets may not be accepted as a valid POR document. Bank statements are not accepted in some countries (e.g. Belgium and France). |
| Credit card statement |
| The issuing bank must be fully regulated. Statements from American Express, prepaid cards, or non-regulated providers may not be accepted. Country-specific restrictions may apply (e.g. not accepted in Belgium and France). |
| Utility bill |
| Mobile phone bills are not accepted as valid POR. |
| Tax statement |
| Must be a finalised tax statement issued by the tax authority. Self-declaration or self-assessment documents are not accepted. |
| Residence certificate / residence permit |
| The documents must be issued within the 6 months prior to submission. |
| Government-issued ID |
| Accepted only if it shows your current residential address. Must not have already been used as proof of identity (POI). The documents must be issued within the 6 months prior to submission. |
