When opening an account or completing a periodic personal information update at Saxo, we may need to verify your identity. Depending on your country of residence and the verification method used, this may involve providing a proof of identity (POI) document or completing an electronic identity verification process (e-ID). This article explains the proof of identity documents we accept when required and the requirements they must meet.
What is a proof of identity (POI)?
- Be valid (not expired) at the time of submission
- Clearly show a photo of the document holder
Who must provide a POI?
For retail clients, the following must provide a POI document (unless identity verification has been successfully completed through an accepted electronic identification (e-ID) solution):
- The client (individual account holder)
Important for joint account holders
If you are applying for a joint account, each applicant must verify their identity individually.
In most cases, identity verification can be completed using an approved electronic identification method (e-ID) or through our identity verification solution during onboarding.
If an electronic identity verification was not completed successfully during onboarding, each joint account applicant may be required to provide two separate proof of identity (POI) documents.
Acceptable POI documents
Saxo accepts the following types of POIs:
- Passport
- National ID card
- Driver's license - only in specific countries (not Netherlands, Belgium, France or Hong Kong)
Residence permits or digitally issued documents are not accepted.
POI document requirements
A valid proof of identity (POI) document must contain sufficient information to verify your identity. Depending on the document type, it should include most of the following:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Country of birth
- Photo
- Date of expiry
- Unique document number
- Signature
The information required may vary depending on the type of document and local regulatory requirements.
All information must be clearly legible, and the document must be complete and unaltered.
We do not accept IDs or passports that contain any covered parts and/or unclear image quality.
