What is SaxoSelect?
Before you read more in this article, please watch this video for an introduction to SaxoSelect:
How do I invest in SaxoSelect?
If you haven’t already done so, you’ll need to open a Saxo account and then follow these steps:
- Open the platform and click SaxoSelect under Trading or Markets if you are in SaxoInvestor.
- If this is your first time with SaxoSelect, you’ll need to complete a set of suitability questions (this is different from an appropriateness test, which relates to self-directed investing). The test will determine your risk profile and which portfolios are suitable for you.
- Open the relevant portfolio/strategy card on the trading platform
- Click the Invest button, next to your chosen portfolio
Once you have invested in a portfolio, a sub-account dedicated to this portfolio will automatically be created under your existing Saxo account.
SaxoSelect portfolios are fully transparent, you will be able to view your holdings under the Positions section on SaxoTraderGO or the Portfolio tab in SaxoInvestor.
Can I dismiss the suitability questions and invest anyway?
No. It is the portfolio manager’s responsibility to ensure that the investment made on your behalf is suitable for you – and the suitability questions are the primary method for such determination.
What managed portfolios can I invest in?
We have a variety of equity and ETF portfolios that are built for different investment goals and market exposures. You can only invest in portfolios that are suitable for you and match your risk profile. To find out more about the portfolios, please visit our home page.
Are trading strategies available for everyone?
Trading Strategies are classified as very high-risk and make use of complex instruments. A suitability questionnaire must be taken to ensure your profile is aligned and that you have sufficient experience in the instruments traded.
What are trading strategies?
Trading strategies are actively managed long and short trading portfolios which are suitable for clients with a very high tolerance for risk. These portfolios enable investment across various derivative and security products such as bonds, CFDs, Futures, Foreign Exchange, Commodities, and Indices. Trading strategies capitalize on the volatile nature of derivative products, taking advantage of both upward and downward market movements. To access these strategies, completion of the SaxoSelect suitability profile is required, and only investors with an appropriate risk appetite will be eligible to invest.
Why are the fees higher for trading strategies compared to Equity and ETF portfolios?
The trading strategies have a far higher trading frequency than equity and ETF portfolios. This is because the trader’s aim is to exploit short-term price movements across different asset classes. In addition, the trading strategies charge a quarterly performance fee for positive returns above the high-water mark.
Read more on how the performance fee is calculated here.
Equity and ETF portfolios are longer-term and will change positions less frequently, thereby incurring fewer trading costs.

Suitability test
If this is your first time investing in a SaxoSelect managed portfolio, you must complete a set of suitability questions before investing. You will be prompted to complete this assessment when you click on the Invest button and before you reach the purchase ticket.
You are offered a portfolio based on your suitability test, which includes also your ESG preferences. If your suitability test or ESG preferences are not in line with any of our managed portfolios, those portfolios will not be shown to you and you cannot invest in them.
If you already hold a managed portfolio but your suitability test or ESG preferences changed, you will be able only to close the existing portfolio, but not to invest in it any more or make partial withdrawals. You can only leave your portfolio as it is, stop it, or re-take the suitability test.
Insufficient funds
Alternatively, you may have insufficient funds to invest the minimum or desired amount. If you have sub-accounts that hold funds, you may need to first transfer funds to your main account, as this is where funds are taken from to invest into your managed portfolio.
